Glenwood man arrested for residential burglary

On the morning of May 24th, 2024, around 7:45 am, Officer Stacy Watson of the Glenwood Police Department, while on patrol within Glenwood city limits, was approached by an individual claiming unauthorized entry into his home. The affidavit noted the theft of $80 and a cell phone from the complainant’s living room table.

Resuming patrol, Officer Watson headed towards Betty Street Apartments. There, another person reported a suspicious individual in black pants, a grey shirt, and a black backpack loitering around the complex.

Later, at about 8:45 am, the Pike County Sheriff’s Office alerted Officer Watson to a suspicious person at Glenwood Park, near the apartments. The suspect, 26-year-old Austin Swanger, fit the earlier description.

By 9:45 am, the Sheriff’s Office reported a new burglary at Apartment 20 in Betty Street Apartments. The resident reported a stolen black cheerleading backpack marked with “CHHS.”

Chief Greg Harmon was informed about the backpack by Watson, and Harmon acknowledged it resembled the one Swanger had. Upon searching Swanger, officers seized a syringe, a wrapper with a white powdery substance suspected to be methamphetamine, a black flip-phone, and $78.

Swanger was detained at Glenwood Police Department for further questioning. He faced charges for residential burglary, possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, drug paraphernalia, theft of property, and criminal mischief.
