Governor Sanders Declares Disaster Area for Several Arkansas Counties Following Winter Storm

Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders has issued a proclamation declaring several Arkansas counties disaster areas from severe winter weather that impacted the state in late January.

The declaration follows a stretch of harsh conditions that began on or about January 23 and continued through January 29, 2026. According to the proclamation, the winter weather created dangerous conditions and caused widespread hardship and damage to both residents and public property across Arkansas.

Under the order, Howard, Nevada, Ouachita, Pike, and Saline counties have been officially designated as disaster areas. The declaration allows those counties to receive Public Assistance disaster relief from the state to aid in recovery efforts.

State officials say the severe weather placed significant strain on local communities, prompting the need for supplemental assistance to help repair infrastructure and address damages.

Governor Sanders issued the proclamation on Monday April 13th, formally authorizing state resources to support recovery efforts in the affected areas.

The declaration is part of ongoing efforts to help communities rebuild and recover following the late-January winter storm.
