Governor Updates On Latest Corona Information

As of Sunday afternoon, there are now 165 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Arkansas. Of the 165 confirmed cases, 10 are children ages 18 and under; 63 are seniors age 65 and up; while 93 cases are among adults ages 19 to 64. Governor Asa Hutchinson told the public Sunday afternoon that the state is focusing on two main concerns at present: obtaining more Personal Protective Equipment for medical workers and upgrading I.T. equipment for unemployment computer systems so that residents can file for unemployment benefits. Governor Hutchinson says that Arkansas is having to compete with other states and even foreign countries to try to acquire more Personal Protective Equipment for medical workers:”

“Governor Hutchinson says that close to 10,000 Arkansans have tried to file for unemployment benefits in recent days. The Governor will work with the legislature to provide funding for I.T. upgrades to the unemployment computer systems:”

“Secretary of Commerce Mike Preston says that residents seeking to file unemployment claims should call a hotline that’s been set up at 844-908-2178. That number will be manned around the clock to assist you. Secretary Preston says that businesses who need assistance, such as applying for S.B.A. loans, should go to a website: www.arkansasedc.com/covid19 :”

U.A.M.S. director Dr. Cam Patterson concluded Sunday’s press conference by warning residents to be aware of false testing kits, false medications, and other false items that are being offered for sale out there:”

“Again, there are now 165 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Arkansas as of Sunday afternoon. That number is expected to continue to increase as the testing capacity increases. Governor Hutchinson told the state over the weekend that he predicts that the coronavirus won’t peak in Arkansas for another six to eight weeks. At its peak, the Governor predicts that there will be over 1,000 Arkansans hospitalized. So continue to wash your hands frequently, follow the precautionary measures that the state has put in place, and stay safe.
