Gurdon woman arrested in Pike County

On June 17th at 11pm, Special Agent John Jones and Agent Greg Harper of the 9th West Drug Task Force were on patrol in their jurisdiction when they noticed a silver car with Arkansas tags parked on the road in front of 90 Rock Creek Rd in Glenwood.

According to the affidavit, the officers activated their emergency lights to approach the vehicle. They observed a female, later identified as 34-year-old Jessica Smallwood of Gurdon, near a mailbox who then ran towards the passenger side of the car.

Agent Harper swiftly exited the vehicle and repeatedly instructed Smallwood to halt. Despite the commands, she hurried to the passenger seat, leaned over, and discarded a white bag underneath the car, urging the driver to flee. The car rapidly accelerated, exceeding the speed limit of 30 mph, reaching speeds up to 50 mph as it turned east onto HWY 8. After driving several hundred yards, the vehicle finally came to a stop and both occupants were apprehended.

Agent Jones retraced Smallwood’s actions to where the bag had been thrown, documenting the scene with photographs and securing the bag. Upon inspection, the substance inside the bag was identified as crystal methamphetamine after testing positive.

Smallwood reportedly confessed to law enforcement that she had intended to sell the methamphetamine in Glenwood.

As a result, Smallwood was charged with possession of methamphetamine with the purpose to deliver.
