HC Quorum Court approves donation of $35,000 to county fire chief association
Justices of the Peace of Howard County held their regular monthly meeting yesterday.
Center Point Fire Chief Allen Green discussed the Fire Department having communication problems since the tornado hit Center Point in November of last year. Green explained to the JPs that his department doesn’t have the funds to buy equipment or to get the main tower fixed. Green made a proposal to the quorum court about purchasing the needed items such as six repeaters, antennas, and upgrading the radio system from analog to digital. Justices of the peace approved the motion to donate $35,000 to the Fire Chief Association to be used for communication upgrades out of the Contingency fund.
Howard County Judge Brent Pinkerton presented to the JPs with bids on signage from a company out of Arkadelphia called Batson Quality Signs and Graphics in the amount of $45.00 per large sign and $37.50 per small sign. Judge Pinkerton stated this company does a mass production on signage and told the quorum court members that his plan is to go this route instead of going through the process of hiring someone for the job. Pinkerton stated that one of the continuing issues are street signs being stolen, but he said if anyone gets caught stealing the signs off of the poles they will be prosecuted.
Judge Pinkerton also mentioned that the North Howard County Rural Water Association has been approved for $499,941.00 to help with the water system. Justices of the Peace also approved the motion to remove Mike McCullough’s name from the Airport Account and add Judge Pinkerton
