Heat Advisory issued for SW Arkansas by NWS

After a small break in three-digit temperatures last week, we’re back in the 100-degree-plus range today.

Today’s high is set to be near 100 degrees with a heat index as high as 106. The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for today and continue through seven this evening.

That means drinking plenty of water and staying in the shade or in air conditioning whenever possible. Make sure to check up on relatives and neighbors, especially the elderly. Keep plenty of water available for outdoor animals and ensure they have shade available.

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, schedule frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1 immediately if you see someone suffering from those symptoms.
