Hempstead County Under Burn Ban as Judge Jerry Crane Cites Dry Conditions and Fire Risk

On Monday, March 23, Hempstead County Judge Jerry Crane issued an executive order declaring a countywide burn ban due to insufficient rainfall and increasingly dry conditions.
The ban prohibits all outdoor burning, including the discharge of fireworks. Judge Crane emphasized that current conditions pose a significant risk to both life and property.
According to the order, citations will be issued to anyone found setting outdoor fires. Violations during a burn ban are classified as a Class A misdemeanor and may be issued for igniting forests, brush, or any other flammable materials.
