High Speed pursuit ends in Hempstead County
A high speed police pursuit along Interstate 30 Friday that began near New Boston, Texas ended in Hempstead County, with two people being arrested. Arkansas State Police identified the two as Larreal Pope and Kendrick Bailey, both of Jonesboro.
DPS Troopers in Texas say the suspects were seen throwing items from their vehicle during the pursuit that included speeds up to 130 miles per hour. The suspect vehicle also passed other vehicles on the right hand shoulder, while trying to avoid troopers. In Arkansas, authorities say the suspect vehicle attempted to run over a trooper who was standing along the side of the interstate. The pursuit ended with state troopers performing a PIT maneuver to knock the vehicle from the roadway. The two suspects were taken into custody near Emmet, and were transported to the Hempstead County Jail. Both men are expected to be charged with felony fleeing, aggravated assault, and possession of illegal drugs. Charges from Texas are also pending.
