High speed pursuit in Pike County results in arrest of Amity resident

A high speed vehicle pursuit earlier this month in Pike County has led to charges being filed against an Amity resident.  Sheriff’s deputies say they initially attempted to stop the vehicle for traveling 89 miles per hour in a 55 mile per hour zone on Highway 70.  The driver of that vehicle, later identified as 18 year old Camron Stevens, failed to stop as he continued traveling on county roads, before returning to Highway 70.  As the pursuit neared Kirby, additional deputies attempted to slow down Steven’s vehicle, but were unsuccessful.  The pursuit continued on Highway 70 west of Kirby, with speeds reaching in excess of 115 miles per hour.  Authorities say the pursuit continued for several miles, until the driver finally stopped.  Incident reports state Stevens told deputies he was fleeing due to not having a driver’s license.  While searching the vehicle, deputies say they recovered marijuana cigarettes.  Stevens was arrested and transported to the Pike County Jail.  He has been charged with a felony count of Fleeing, and misdemeanor charges that include Possession of a Controlled Substance, No Driver’s License, and speeding.
