High temperatures followed by severe thunderstorms in the area Thursday afternoon
Severe thunderstorms followed the hottest temperature of the year Thursday in Nashville. Yesterday’s official high reached 105 degrees, and soon afterwards, severe thunderstorms began developing. In addition to very heavy rainfall, estimated at two to four inches across the immediate Nashville area, the storms were accompanied by damaging winds that knocked down trees and led to power interruptions. One of the hardest hit areas was surrounding the Nashville Country Club. Several large trees were either snapped above ground level, or blown completely over. There was also some structural damage to the clubhouse at the country club. Club officials have announced the clubhouse, pool, and golf course will all be closed until further notice while the area is cleaned up.
