Hitchhiker picked up by trooper transported to Pike County Jail
An Okalona man seeking a ride to Antoine, instead got a ride to the Pike County Jail earlier this month. According to reports, 61 year old Stan Funderburk was hitchhiking along Highway 26 the morning of April 12th, when he was approached by Arkansas State Trooper Seth Smedley, who was on patrol. When the trooper found out Funderburk was attempting to get to Antoine, he offered Funderburk a ride. When Trooper Smedley learned Funderburk’s identity, he asked dispatchers for a criminal check, and learned that Funderburk had outstanding warrants from Pike County. Reports said Funderburk was asked to exit the patrol car so he could be searched before being placed into custody. While searching Funderburk, Trooper Smedley said he recovered a glass smoking pipe from Funderburk’s pocket and asked if he had anything else illegal in his possession. Funderburk admitted he had some methamphetamine that he had attempted to conceal in the patrol car’s back seat, which was recovered by the trooper.
Funderburk was transported to the Pike County Jail and has been charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance–Methamphetamine and Tampering with Physical Evidence.
