Hope Police Handle Multiple Incidents Following Trail Ride Event

The Hope Police Department responded to numerous calls for service Saturday night and early Sunday morning following a large trail ride event in rural Hempstead County that drew crowds into the city.

Police said dispatchers received reports throughout the evening involving trespassing, fights, threats, a participant passing out, and an incident in which event security reportedly disarmed an individual with a firearm. As attendees entered Hope after the event, officers responded to several disturbances, including fights, reports of shots fired that resulted in property damage to Wendy’s, and large crowds gathering at local businesses.

Nine people were arrested on charges including failure to appear, driving while intoxicated, public intoxication, disorderly conduct, possession of marijuana, and minor in possession of alcohol.

The department also addressed rumors circulating on social media, stating there were no reports or evidence that anyone was shot during the incidents, despite online claims.
