Hot Springs man arrested after high speed chase in Pike County
On July 26th, at approximately 11am, Pike County Dispatch received a call of a blue Nissan traveling south on Highway 27 towards Murfreesboro at a high rate of speed. It was reported that Pike County Sergeant Shaun Furr was in the area patrolling and located the vehicle. The car was reportedly traveling approximately 30mph and had several vehicles behind it. It was also reported that when Sergeant Furr attempted to stop the vehicle on Hwy 27, north of Murfreesboro, the vehicle failed to pull over and accelerated to a speed of approximately 50mph.
According to the affidavit, Pike County Deputy Chris Gates joined the pursuit and was able to get in front of the suspect’s vehicle, attempting to slow it down but the vehicle kept passing Deputy Gates. The vehicle reportedly came into Murfreesboro speeding 50 to 70mph and officers continued to follow the suspect on highway 19 North and during this time the car was up to speeds up to 90mph. It was reported that during the pursuit, the suspect had side swiped a vehicle that had four occupants including two young juveniles. Pike County Deputy Richard O’Neal then set up spike strips at the city limits of Highway 19 North and successfully got three of the tires on the vehicle. As the suspect continued to flee, it was reported that the tires started falling apart as the vehicle continued through the city of Murfreesboro and onto highway 27 South. Murfreesboro Police Chief Randy Lamb was then able to get in front of the suspect’s vehicle and it eventually came to a stop.
The suspect was identified as 31-year-old Daniel Levac of Hot Springs. Deputies reportedly had to knock the windows out of the doors in order to get Levac out of the vehicle. It was reported that during an inventory search, deputies retrieved one small glass container with a green leafy substance appearing to be marijuana and a small black unlabeled pill bottle also containing a green leafy substance appearing to be marijuana. Levac was arrested and was charged with fleeing, resisting arrest, leaving the scene of an accident, and possession of a controlled substance.
