Howard County 4-H Highlights Successes, Promotes Jackpot Livestock Show

Howard County 4-H County Chairperson Samantha Horn addressed the Nashville Rotary Club on Wednesday afternoon, providing an update on the local 4-H program and discussing the organization’s upcoming Jackpot Livestock Show fundraiser.
Horn was joined by Howard County 4-H members Guy Cooper Kroll and Emmie Trombley. She noted that Kroll participates in the Bridge Program, a leadership development initiative, while several other Howard County 4-H members are involved in the Teen Leadership Council (TLC), a program designed to develop leadership skills among older youth members.
According to Horn, Howard County 4-H currently has between 100 and 120 active members. She explained that it costs approximately $20,000 to $25,000 annually to support members’ participation in district, regional, state, and national contests and educational programs.
Horn also reported that Howard County 4-H members recently competed in the O-Rama event in Ferndale, where participants enjoyed outstanding success. She said every Howard County contestant placed among the top three in their respective competitions.
As part of her presentation, Horn encouraged community members and businesses to support this year’s Jackpot Livestock Show by becoming sponsors. Sponsorship opportunities begin at $50, and the deadline to sign up as a sponsor is Monday, June 15.
Horn explained that the Jackpot Livestock Show has replaced the BBQ Bowl fundraiser traditionally held in February. Funds raised through last year’s event were donated to the Howard County 4-H Foundation and are used to help finance the various activities and programs in which local 4-H members participate.
