Howard County Elected Officials Sworn in for New Term
A swearing-in ceremony was held yesterday for both elected and newly elected officials in Howard County, marking the start of their new terms. Members of the Howard County Quorum Court, along with most city council members from Nashville, Tollette, and Mineral Springs, took their oaths of office, officially beginning their duties for 2025.
In addition to the local officials, Circuit Court Judge Bryan Chesshir also swore in District Court Judge Jessica Steel Gunter, who will be serving another term in her position.
Following the ceremony, the Howard County Quorum Court convened for their first meeting of the year. During the session, the Justices of the Peace (JPs) voted 7 to 1 to continue using “Robert’s Rules of Order” as the parliamentary procedure for conducting their meetings, which will remain scheduled for the third Monday of each month, with exceptions made if a meeting falls on a holiday, in which case it will be moved to the following Tuesday.
Treasurer Sherri Mixon presented the county’s financial outlook for 2025, projecting $2,844,265 in revenue for the year. She further stated that $3,915,059 in total funds would be available for county general, with the county able to utilize 90 percent of that amount.
With no further business, the meeting was adjourned. The next Quorum Court meeting will be held on February 17, 2025, at 11 a.m.
