New radio repeater system installed in Howard County
A new radio antenna/repeater system was installed Saturday to benefit fire departments in Howard County. A tornado last November at Center Point knocked down the tower where the previous antenna was located. Earlier this year, the Howard County Quorum Court voted to give 35 thousand dollars to the Fire Chiefs Association to purchase the new system. The new equipment not only allows firemen to have their previous communications restored, but also has the capability for the departments to convert to digital audio at some point in the future.
Howard County Judge Brent Pinkerton gave special thanks to Jimmy Mixon for installing the equipment high above the ground, as well as to the others who assisted at ground level.
