Howard County Historical Society President guest speaker at Nashville Rotary Club
Freddie Horne was the guest speakers at the Nashville Rotary Club meeting on Wednesday.
Horne is the president of the Howard County Historical Society. He stated the historical society started as the Heritage Club in 1973 with 150 members, but about nine years ago, the Heritage Club deeded the church building and checking account to the historical society. Horne said the historical society now manages five buildings on two campuses. He said they now have 65 members.
Horne said the car show is the historical society largest fundraiser. He said this year, they raised about $4,200 and most of that will be used to pay the museum’s insurance policies for the year.
Horne said a single person membership is $20, a family membership is $50 and a corporate membership is $200.
The current board consist of Horne, first vice-president – Susan Nannemann, second vice-president – Marsha Rhodes, secretary – Connie Castleberry, treasurer – Tim Pinkerton, historian – Patsy Young, publicity chair – Johathan Canaday and IT specialist – Matthew Nannemann with 7 special events coordinators.
Horne said the Historical Society is also a training program for the AARP Foundation’s Senior Community Service Employment Program. He said they also receive volunteer help through the Arkansas Department of Corrections. Horne said citizens can work off their fines and fulfill their community service by helping at the museum.
