Howard County Quorum Court Approves Budget Ordinance, Reviews Financial Update

The Howard County Quorum Court met yesterday for its regular monthly meeting, where justices of the peace addressed county budget matters and received an update on county finances.
During the meeting, JPs approved a motion to pass an ordinance related to the 2026 Howard County Operating Budget. As part of the ordinance, general supplies funding for the Howard County Road Department will increase by $55.40, stemming from a refund on a credit balance from Capital One.
County Treasurer Sherri Mixon also presented a financial report to the court. Mixon reported that the county’s contingency fund ended with a balance of $3,168,494.32, which exceeded her original projection of $2,839,334 by approximately 110 percent.
Mixon added that $15,000 from the contingency fund will be allocated to cover the Economic Development fee. She noted that this will be the final year the county will make that payment.
The quorum court took no further action related to the budget during the meeting.
