The Howard County Quorum Court met Tuesday for their regular monthly meeting, with all Justices of the Peace present except JP Jerry Harwell.
During the session, justices approved multiple ordinances, including updates related to the county’s operating budgets.
One ordinance addressed the 2026 Howard County Operating Budget. Under the measure, funding for Howard County Roads — Parts and Repairs will increase by $24,345.99. County Road, Capital Outlay, including Machinery and Equipment (other than vehicles), will increase by $93,577.01. In addition, Courthouse Maintenance — Parts and Repairs will increase by $10,921.57.
The increases stem from the Association of Arkansas Counties Risk Management Fund/Claims Account following lightning damage to county equipment.
The court also approved Ordinance 2026-3, which amends the 2025 Howard County Operating Budget.
During the financial report, Howard County Treasurer Sherri Mixon told the court that sales tax revenue was up for the month of January.
Mixon also reported that the county’s contingency fund currently stands at $2,958,970.07. She noted that the only anticipated expenditure from that fund at this time is $389,610 for Reservoir Road in Dierks.
The court concluded the meeting after addressing the scheduled agenda items.
