Howard County Quorum Court votes to support Issue One on November ballot
On an eight to one vote, the Howard County Quorum Court has adopted a resolution supporting Issue One on the November election ballot. Issue One proposes the continuance of a half cent sales and use tax that has been in place since 2012 and is set to expire in 2023. According to information from the Association of Arkansas Counties, Howard County would stand to lose more than $389,600 dollars for county roads beginning in 2024 without the tax. The three incorporated cities would also lose an additional $168,000 dollars in street funds, if the tax isn’t continued by voters later this year. Judge Kevin Smith told the quorum court that there are state highway projects planned throughout the state, if the tax is continued by voters.
J.P. Don Marks cast the only opposing vote to the resolution at yesterday’s meeting.
