Howard County Senior Center to Receive Accessibility Upgrade with Help from AARP Grant

Access to the Nashville Senior Center in Howard County is about to get easier for local seniors, thanks to a new improvement project supported by a grant from AARP.

On Monday, Judge Brent Pinkerton shared more details about the initiative. For years, seniors using walkers, canes, and wheelchairs have struggled to navigate the building’s existing doors—a problem that the center’s director has long hoped to fix.
Judge Pinkerton said he reached out to the Southwest Arkansas Planning and Development District to seek support. This year, they applied for grant funding through AARP and received good news: Howard County is one of just six projects in Arkansas selected to receive the funds.
Once the AARP grant money is officially submitted to the county, the senior center will install new automatic push-button doors. Judge Pinkerton said the project will improve access and comfort for seniors as they enjoy programs and activities at the center.
We will continue to follow this story and plan to check back in with Judge Pinkerton once an official start date is announced for the installation of the new automatic doors at the Nashville Senior Adult Center.
