JAWES Principal discuss changes at DSD June Board meeting

Tuesday night during the Dierks School Board regular monthly meeting Superintendent Grover Hill announced that teachers Charlotte Tipton, Chelsea Sayre, and Greg Faulkner qualified for the Merit Pay. The Merit Teacher Incentive Fund Program recognizes and rewards excellent teachers. Teachers, school counselors, library media specialists and aspiring teachers employed under an Aspiring Teacher Permit are eligible for the bonus. Hill added that teachers should receive this on their June payroll.

The board then approved a motion to hire Tori Mitchell as a 3rd Grade teacher, Cameron Glasgow as a 3rd grade teacher, Toni Bowman for Special Education at the Elementary, Kisha Issac and Lynzie Calloway in Food Service. The board also approved a motion to accept the resignation from Jennifer Revels in Food Service. They also accepted two students into the district, coming from DeQueen and two out of the district that will be going to Kirby.

Hill also reported that the floor crew finished the Dierks High School, and they are now moving to the JoAnn Walters Elementary School. They also put handicap ramps going up towards the tornado shelter so they can be in compliance. Hill added that all of the desktops were shipped yesterday, and the Chromebooks were received yesterday as well.

JoAnn Walters Elementary Principal Craig Dodson informed the board on some of the things they have been working on along with mentioning a change in the lunch schedules this coming school year.

Dodson also talked about the 10-03 Funds which are federal school improvement funds which can be spent on items like supplemental materials.

After further discussion, the board passed a motion to accept Dodson’s recommendation and spend the remaining 10-03 funds on supplemental materials.

In conclusion, the board approved a resolution to move $692,000 dollars into the building fund.
