Last week’s weather topic of interest at Nashville City Council meeting
City leaders gave a presentation on how Nashville fared during the snow storms and bitterly cold temperatures last week. Public Works Director Larry Dunaway said when local industries fired back up over the weekend from being down the entirety of last week, the water department set a record for gallons pumped Saturday, at 5.2 million. That record was short lived however, as it was broken the very next day, with 5.3 million gallons being pumped. The previous record was 4.8 million. In spite of the records, Dunaway says Nashville kept their system online, which is something a several towns and rural water systems haven’t been able to do:
Fire Chief Justin Thornton reported his department answered 18 calls last week. Most of those were to assist Pafford EMS with the transport of patients from homes to the ambulance. Other calls included assisting local industries because their sprinklers malfunctioned during the winter weather. There was also one house fire call early Saturday. Chief Thornton said the department has six firemen who live within the Nashville city limits. The fire station was manned full time throughout the week by two or three firemen at a time to help cut down on the response time. Thornton said there was one mishap during the week, resulting in some structural damage to a bay door at the building.
