Legacy Drops Two Against Mineral Springs

Legacy Academy hosted Mineral Springs in senior high basketball action Thursday night, January 19th. It was a competitive night of basketball for both teams. Legacy’s Lady Warriors fell short 49-42, while the Warriors lost a heartbreaker 81-78 in the last moment of the game. 
In Senior boys’ action, the Lockesburg boys outpaced the Hornets 16-9 in the first period and went into the locker room with a 39-35 lead at halftime. The Mineral Springs’ boys went on a run in the third period outscoring the home team 25-12 to take the lead. The Warriors fought back in the 4th quarter securing more buckets than the visitors 27-21, but it proved short as the Warriors lost by three when the final buzzer sounded. 
Senior Ethan Gallagher scored 39 points for Legacy Academy, followed by 17 from Layne Schroer, 8 from Manolo Vazquez, and 6 from Eli Mitchell. Freshman Everrette Martz rounded out the scoring with 3 points. Gallagher also had 18 rebounds and led the team with 6 assists, while Schroer grabbed 11 rebounds for the Warriors. Ozzy Tolendano secured 6 rebounds for the Warriors. It was a tough loss for the Warriors taking their season record 20-5. Four of their five losses were by a single possession. #4 J. Fricks gave Mineral Springs 21 points and KT Thomas provided 17.
The Lady Hornets stung the Lady Warriors right out the gate and took command of the game in the first quarter. They outscored the home team by 13 points–18-5 in the first quarter creating a tough hole for the ladies to dig out of. By halftime it closed to a ten point game, 27-17 with the Lady Hornets still in the lead. The Lady Warriors had a better third period but were still outscored 16-11. It wasn’t until the 4th period that the Lady Warriors seemed to wake up. They outscored Mineral 19-6. 
Oaklee Lofton gave the Lady Warriors 20 of their points, followed by Mercy Hagler with 8, and Lily Tucker with 7. Lofton also gave the Lady Warriors 6 deflections. Dori Bartek gave 4, while Libbie Bartek had 2, and Jenifer Smallwood 1. Hagler led the home team with 13 rebounds, while Bartek grabbed 11 boards. Lofton followed with 7.  The visitors secured the win 49-42. Dhamya Wright led the Lady Hornets with 23 points.
