Legacy Lady Warriors Win State Tournament
Legacy Academy’s Lady Warriors were triumphant on Saturday in their HCAA State Championship game, as they defeated the CMA Conquerors in the showpiece game 51-29. The Lockesburg team won the championship, which was held at Oklahoma Baptist University. HCAA is the Christian school athletic association for Kansas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. This is the Lady Warriors’ first state title in only the fifth season of their program. The victory was a big pay off for the ladies after a tough season that came together just in time for the tournament.
The Lockesburg ladies led the entire game, storming into an early lead of 16-5 at the 1st quarter. Despite a second quarter recovery from the Lady Conquerors, the Lady Warriors held onto a 7-point lead going into the half. From that point, they never looked back, stretching their lead further and further through the second half, never once relinquishing the command.
Team captain, Senior Dori Bartek, scored 18 points and made 8 rebounds and 3 assists. Her final appearance for the Lady Warriors culminated in a 3-point buzzer beater to seal the win! Sophomores #10 Oaklee Lofton and #35 Mercy Hagler added 16 and 11 points respectively. Lofton got 5 rebounds and 4 steals, and Hagler made a double-double with 10 rebounds. The scoring was rounded out with 4 points from Maddie Lowrey and 2 from Libbie Bartek.
The Legacy ladies had advanced to the state competition after victories over the Gospel Light Lady Lions and CMA in the finals and semi-finals in their regional bracket. To reach the championship game the Lady Warriors easily defeated Cornerstone Christian in the quarter finals and overcame Gospel Light in a nail-biting rematch from regionals with a final score of 40-36.
