Legacy splits with CMA
Legacy Academy hosted Christian Ministries Academy (CMA) of Hot Springs on Friday night for a full night of basketball. All four teams took the floor for ball games. Legacy handily won both junior high games. CMA took both senior games, including a heartbreaking 84-83 loss for the senior boys.
In senior boys action the Warriors were anxious for a rematch with CMA, who beat them by 30 early in the season on the road. This game proved to be a much better game for the Warriors, as both teams fought point for point all night long. Legacy outscored CMA 27-20 in the first quarter, but CMA led in the second with the teams neck and neck: Legacy leading 46-45 at the half. CMA outscored the Warriors by 1 point in each quarter of the second half giving them a final victory of 84-83 over the Lockesburg boys. Ethan Gallagher led the home team with 42 points and 20 rebounds for a double-double. Layne Schroer also had a double double with 17 points and 12 boards. Eli Mitchell gave the Warriors 13 points, followed by Manolo Vazquez with 8. Eli Hamilton have the Warriors an important 3 pointer in the first quarter. CMA was led by Aiden Carmona with 39 points, followed by Isaiah Howard with 14. The Warriors are now 18-4 for the season and are right back in action on Monday when they host Horatio in Lockesburg.
Legacy’s Lady Warriors struggled in senior girls’ action. The Lady Conquerors outscored the Lockesburg girls 30-13 in the first half. The Lady Warriors reset in the locker broom and had a much better half, outscoring the Hot Springs team 17-14, but it was not enough to turn the game. CMA won with a final score of 44-30. Oaklee Lofton provided the Lady Warriors 15 points, followed by 7 points for Mercy Hagler, and 6 from Dori Bartek. Skylar Alexander rounded out the scoring with 2 points. Oaklee had another double-double by grabbing 11 boards for the home team. Justice Cole led the visitors with 17 points, followed by Faith James with 15.
In junior boys’ play the Warriors soundly defeated CMA 54-18 outscoring the visitors in every period. The Warriors were led by Manolo Vazquez who had 22 points and 8 rebounds. Jude Gallagher led crashing the board with 10 boards and 13 points getting a double-double for the night. Silas Lofton was the king of the three pointer, hitting 5 three pointers and scoring 17 points overall. Justise Burton got on the board with 2 points. Legacy’s Junior boys are now 13-5 for the year and undefeated in conference play.
The home stands cheered on Legacy’s junior girls to victory in the opening game as they defeated CMA 34-26. Legacy led at halftime 15-12 and outscored the guests 19-14 in the last two periods. Libbie Bartek led scoring for the junior Lady Warriors 15 points and grabbed a double-double with 11 rebounds. Olivia Lofton had 8 points followed by 4 points from Beth Sparks and Madison Teague. Izzy Ward gave 2 points, while Reagan Oge had 1. Faith Grim gave the the visitors 12 points. Legacy’s Junior girls improved their record to 8-5 for the season and will take the court again on Monday against Horatio.
