LEGACY SWEEPS ODEN WITH THREE WINS IN SEASON OPENER

LOCKESBURG, ARK–Legacy Academy opened their 2021-22 basketball season in home games verses the Oden Timberwolves Tuesday night in Lockesburg. The junior girls, senior girls, and senior boys played for an excited home crowd at Warrior gym.

The night started off with Lockesburg’s junior girls commanding the court all four quarters of play. They held the visitors scoreless the first and third quarter of the game. The home team spread the points around with Rayne McDonald scoring six points, Hannah Mae Morris scoring four. McDonald also led with 4 rebounds, while Oaklee Lofton contributed two assists. The junior Lady Warriors put the game away with a final score of 23-6.

In senior girl action, a closer game kept the crowd attentive all night. The Lady Warriors started out strong with a 14-7 lead at the end of the first quarter, including two three pointers by Grace Tucker, but got outscored by the Lady Timberwolves 11-3 in the second quarter, sending the Lockesburg team to the locker room with only a one point lead of 17-16 at halftime. The Lady Warriors came back strong in the second half and kept their momentum. The finished with a 43-34 win over the ladies from Oden. Grace Tucker was the high scorer for the Lady Warriors with 24 points, include 4 three pointers, while Dori Bartek followed with 10 points for the home squad. Trinity Cox dominated the boards, snatching 10 rebounds for the Lady Warriors. This is the second year for the school to have a senior girls’ basketball program.

Oaklee Lofton

The academy’s senior boys met the Timberwolves from Oden in their season debut for the only boys’ action of the night. The Timberwolves hit the court hard and immediately took an 11-2 lead over the Warriors, who battled back to end the first quarter down by two with a 15-13 score. The Warriors worked hard outscoring Oden 16-9 in the second quarter, going to halftime up ten points 32-22. The teams kept a close game in the third quarter with the home team scoring 16 and 15 for the visitors. Oden was outscored by Legacy 16-8 in the final quarter, getting the victory for the Lockesburg team 61-45. Ethan Stovall drove the lane for Timberwolves scoring 27 of their points. Ethan Gallagher scored 29 for the Warriors, followed by DJ Morris who secured 22 points. Morris also led the team with seven assists and Gallagher grabbed 13 rebounds for the home team.

The Warriors have a full basketball schedule, which can be found on the school’s website www.legacywarriors.org. Their junior boys play Umpire at home Thursday night at 5:30, while both junior and senior boys take on Columbia Christian from Magnolia at home on Friday night. The Lady Warriors get back on the court next Tuesday when all four of the school’s teams play Cornerstone Christian at home.
