LEGACY’S JUNIOR HIGH TEAMS SPLIT GAMES AT BLEVINS JAMBOREE

Southwest Arkansas kicked off junior high basketball at Blevins Monday in their annual Blevins Jamboree. Legacy Academy’s junior teams each played Kirby and Caddo Hills. The junior Lady Warriors defeated Kirby in their first game and fell to Caddo Hills in their second game. Lilly Tucker was the high scorer for both games.

Legacy’s junior boys team faltered out of the gate, losing their first game, falling 26-19 to Kirby’s junior high Trojans. Kirby outscored the Warriors 13-5 in the first half, while Legacy outscored Kirby in the second half. The second half effort wasn’t enough to get the win for Legacy. Manolo Vasquez scored 9 points, while Eli Mitchell gave the Warriors 8. The junior boys delivered a big win for the Lockesburg team in a nail biter against Caddo Hills. They defeated the Indians 30-28. The game ended regulation play with a tied score of 28-28. This was after Brayson Talley stole the ball, allowing Vasquez to attempt a layup. He was fouled on the failed attempt with .02 seconds left in the game. Making both free throws kept Legacy in the game. Blevin’s Jamboree rules put the game in sudden death, instead of overtime. Mitchell gave the Warriors the win with a layup. Vasquez was again the high scorer with 13 points, followed by 10 from Mitchell, 6 from Jude Gallagher, and 1 from Talley.

All four of Legacy’s basketball teams play Tuesday against Camden’s Victory Christian in Lockesburg at Warrior Gymnasium. The junior girls game is first and begins at 430pm.
