Leopards fall to Legacy Warriors

Legacy Academy perfected their record today against Sevier County schools by defeating the De Queen Leopards in senior boys’ basketball action in the first round of the Genoa Christmas Classic tournament. The Leopards fell to the neighboring private school from Lockesburg 50-43. It was the first time the school’s have played each other. Legacy advances to play Springhill in the next round, while the Leopards move to the Consolation bracket and face Gurdon. All three of Sevier County’s high schools are in the tournament and played today. Horatio lost to Springhill Tuesday afternoon and also moves to the consolation bracket. 
De Queen started the game strong. After winning the jump ball, The Leopards outscored the Lockesburg club 11-6 in the first period. The Warriors found their stride in the second period where they nearly doubled the Leopards in scoring by putting 19 points on the board to De Queen’s 10. Legacy led at the half by four points with a score of 25-21. Legacy maintained their lead after the half but saw it cut down to three points. At the beginning of the fourth the Leopards tied the game temporarily but Legacy never let up and retook the lead and won by seven with a final score of 50-43. 
Legacy’s Ethan Gallagher was the high scorer out of both Sevier County teams and led with rebounds. He had 18 points and 24 rebounds for a double-double. Eli Mitchell gave the Warriors 11 points and 8 rebounds, followed by 9 points from Manolo Vazquez, and 7 from Ozzy Tolendano. Layne Schroer helped the Warriors out with 12 rebounds and 5 points. 
Manny Hernandez led scoring for the Leopards with 15 points, while Nathan Patterson had 12, and Cooper young 7. Patterson led the Leopards in rebounding with 9 boards.
