Little River County Suspect Arrested Following Attempted Child Abduction Investigation

A Shreveport, Louisiana man has been arrested following an investigation into an attempted child abduction reported Thursday in Little River County.
According to information released by the Little River County Sheriff’s Office on Facebook, deputies responded on May 14, 2026, to a report of an adult male attempting to get a child into a vehicle with him.
Sergeant Russell Hopkins responded to the scene and spoke with the mother of a 12-year-old girl involved in the incident. Authorities said the child’s mother was able to intervene and prevent her daughter from leaving with the suspect. The adult male reportedly fled the area before Sgt. Hopkins arrived.
Following an investigation and with assistance from multiple law enforcement agencies, Sgt. Hopkins was able to positively identify the suspect as 28-year-old Jaqualiyan Whitaker of Shreveport, Louisiana.
Whitaker was taken into custody at approximately 12:30 a.m. Friday morning.
The Little River County Sheriff’s Office praised the child’s mother for her vigilance and quick response during the incident.
“We would like to give a special thanks to the mother of this child for her vigilance in watching over her child and her quick action,” the sheriff’s office stated. Officials also thanked the agencies that assisted in quickly apprehending the suspect.
No additional information about charges or court appearances was immediately released.
