Local Business Leader Passes Away

An individual credited for helping make the poultry industry what it is today in Nashville has died. Neely Cassady passed away Saturday at the age of 91.

He built and sold the companies known today as Pilgrim’s Pride and Tyson Foods. He was also well known in agriculture around the state. In 2017, Cassady was named to the Arkansas Agriculture Hall of Fame.

In 1982, he was elected to the Arkansas State Senate where he served for 14 years.

A memorial service will be held this afternoon at 2:00 o’clock at Immanuel Baptist Church with a reception to follow. A private burial will be held at the County Line Cemetery.
