Local Candidate Filing Underway

The filing period for local candidates seeking office in the 2020 election opened at noon Monday. Party candidates will pay their filing fees to their respective parties and then file the required paperwork with the county clerk’s office in order to become a certified candidate. Independent candidates will go to the clerk’s office to file their candidacy. Signatures will be required on a petition for independent candidates..however, those petitions will need to be circulated no earlier than February 1st and returned to the clerk’s office by noon on May 1st next year. School board positions are nonpartisan..and those petitions can be returned by the end of the filing period next week. The normal filing period would end at noon November 11th…but since that is Veteran’s Day, the filing period for candidates has been extended until noon Tuesday, November 12th.
