Local Communities Receive Grants from Economic Development Commission
Governor Asa Hutchinson and the Arkansas Economic Development Commission presented grants totaling more than $8.8 million to 78 Arkansas communities and counties at a ceremony on Thursday, October 24th at the Arkansas State Capitol.
The grants fall into one of four programs administered by
the Arkansas Economic Development Commission (AEDC): Arkansas Community and Economic Development Grant Program, Rural Services Block Grants, Rural Community Grants, and County Fair Building Grants.
Under the Rural Services Block Grant Program, the City of Washington received a $72,577.16 grant. This grant requires a match of 10 percent that may be comprised of in-kind labor, in-kind materials or cash. Only incorporated towns and rural communities with a population of less than 3,000 with at least 51 percent low-to-moderate-income category are eligible. Mayor Paul Henley and Dolly Henley attended to receive the grant for Washington.
The City of Tollette received a $1,572 grant from the Rural Community Grant Program. Applicants from incorporated towns of less that 3,000 in population and unincorporated areas are eligible for up to $15,000 in matching funds under the program.
