Local Governments Making Changes To Deal With Pandemic

As the state prepares for COVID-19 to become more widespread, local governments are rearranging their office work schedules.

Last week, Nashville Mayor Billy Ray Jones said the city began operating with a reduced employee workforce to help stop the potential spread of the virus.

At the Howard County Courthouse, Circuit Clerk Angle Lewis said her staff will be reduced each day and alternate weekly schedules. Because the office has become more computerized in duties the past few years, employees who aren’t at the courthouse will be able to do some of their daily work from home.

Circuit court Wednesday in Nashville will be on a limited basis. Some cases have already been continued for several weeks off in hopes to get past the peak of COVID-19. Lewis said jury trials have been pushed back into early April and the situation will be re-evaluated at that time.
