Local Graduate Reflects on Honor of Representing Arkansas in Nation’s Capital

A recent high school graduate and Nashville native, had the unforgettable opportunity to travel to Washington, D.C., where he proudly represented his home state. Luis Maya II, a 2024 graduate of Nashville High School, spoke with us about his time in the nation’s capital and the experience of working closely with lawmakers on Capitol Hill.

Maya completed an internship in the office of Congressman French Hill, Chairman of the Financial Services Committee and representative of Arkansas’ Second Congressional District. He described the experience as a major milestone and a true honor.

While in Washington, Maya was immersed in the inner workings of government. In addition to his internship responsibilities, he had the chance to explore the capital’s historic sites and deepen his understanding of U.S. history and government.
Maya also shared the length of his stay in Washington and what he’s been focused on since returning home.
