Local Leads Captain of Howard County discusses Local Leads Program

Karen Garner, the Local Leads Captain for Howard County, recently discussed the Local Leads Program with us. Garner, who is also responsible for five counties, works through the Dequeen-Mena Cooperative. The Arkansas Department of Education recognized the necessity for Local Leads and introduced the program through the Learns Act.

Garner, who holds a degree in early childhood education, expressed her passion for children’s early learning years. The aim of Local Leads is to support and collaborate with childcare centers and families.

Furthermore, Garner mentioned that a fall event is being planned. Childcare providers, public school superintendents, community stakeholders, families, and state representatives will be invited. The goal is to engage all children in the counties to ensure they are ready for kindergarten.
