Man arrested in Pike County for theft of property

On September 15th Glenwood Chief of Police Greg Harmon, was contacted by the Pike County Sheriff’s Office dispatch in reference to a break in at a person’s home on the corner of Short and Clay Street.

According to the affidavit, dispatch informed Harmon that the caller reported that a person pushed out an air conditioner and went through a window. Harmon reported that when he arrived, he noticed an individual leaving the property coming onto Short Street. The suspect was identified as 58 year old Edgardo Cruz. It was reported that when Harmon tried to talk to Cruz and ask him questions, Cruz then fled back towards the house, then towards a neighbor’s backyard, and then towards Corey Street and several other streets.

Pike County Deputies reportedly arrived later on the scene to assist with the pursuit. Chief Deputy Wayne Epperly finally caught up to Cruz on Gilmer Street and placed him under arrest. Cruz had a white trash bag in his possession that contained several food items totaling approximately $35 and some change in the total amount of $97.95.

Chief Harmon also made contact with the Housekeeper that worked at the residence that was broken into and she informed deputies that while she was cleaning, she noticed several items were missing and the cabinet doors were opened when she arrived.

Cruz was charged with Residential Burglary, theft of property, and fleeing on foot.
