Michigan man arrested in Hempstead County for fleeing
On March 19th, 2024, Arkansas State Trooper Antonio May was driving eastbound on Interstate 30 in the left lane and noticed a blue Dodge Challenger with an Alabama license plate in the right lane. According to the affidavit the Challenger was following too closely to the vehicle in front of it.
Trooper May then activated his lights near the 15-mile marker, but the driver allegedly failed to yield and began to flee. It was reported that Trooper May advised dispatch and continued to pursue the vehicle, reaching speeds of 131 miles per hour. The pursuit continued up to the 29-mile marker where Trooper Kari Alexander successfully deployed spikes, which disabled the front left tire of the vehicle.
However, the vehicle continued to travel eastbound and took exit 30 and then turned south on Hervey Street in Hope. The driver ended up colliding with a black SUV causing severe damage. The driver then turned left onto Compress Street and ended up crashing. Although the driver and passenger both fled on foot, but they both were apprehended by the Hope Police Department. The driver was identified as 33-year-old Antony Griffin of Benton Harbor Michigan. Griffin was transported to the Hempstead County Jail and booked for Fleeing and aggravated assault. The passenger was transported to Wadley Hospital in Hope and released without incident.
