Mine Creek Soil & Water Conservation District selects student at Umpire High School to receive scholarship
The Mine Creek Soil & Water Conservation District board of directors selected Haley Carter, to receive a $500.00 scholarship at their monthly meeting that was held on April 23, 2024, according to, Mark Millwood, Chairman of the district board.
Millwood stated that the scholarships are given each year to a Howard County High School Senior that plans to attend a college and pursuing a degree in a conservation or agricultural related field.
Carter talked about what this moment means to her.
Carter is a senior at Umpire High School. where she participates in the following: Umpire FFA Show Team, FBLA, National Honor Society, Student Council, Basketball Team, Cross Country, & Track. She serves as Secretary/Treasurer for the Umpire Student Council and is her Class President.
Carter is the daughter of Cory and Sara Carter of Umpire, and she is also active on her family’s farm. Her Family has Poultry laying houses and cattle which she takes an active role in caring for. Carter spends her summers helping her family with the hay cutting and baling season. Carter plans to attend Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia and pursue a minor in animal science and obtain a master’s degree in agriculture education.
Carter took a moment to thank her family along with the staff members of the Umpire School District.
