Mineral City Council Holds Special Meeting to Discuss 2024 Budget Reconciliation and 2025 Budget Proposals
On Monday evening, the Mineral City Council convened for a special called meeting to review and make key decisions regarding the city’s financial outlook. The primary agenda items included a budget reconciliation for 2024, as well as amendments and decisions regarding the proposed budget for 2025.
The meeting began with the council passing a motion to transfer $1,666 dollars from the city’s bond account back into the General Fund. The motion passed unanimously, signaling a small but significant adjustment in the city’s fiscal operations.
In a subsequent vote, Alderman James Jean introduced a motion to amend the Mayor’s recommended budget for 2025. This motion was seconded by Alderman Earle Hadden, and, after brief discussion, it was approved by a unanimous vote of the council.
Another important item addressed during the meeting was the salary review for several key city employees. In a 4-2 vote, the council agreed to maintain the current salaries for Public Works Supervisor Eric Marks in the amount of $3000 annually, Recorder Treasurer and Parks Director Denise Juniel in the amount of $3600 annually for the 2025 fiscal year.
Additional budget-related motions included a $100 per month pay increase for the Mayor which amounted to $1200 annually, which was also approved by the council. Full-time sanitation workers were granted a $600 annual pay raise, while part-time workers’ pay will remain unchanged for the upcoming year along with the water clerk being paid $1200 dollars annually.
In a gesture of appreciation for city staff, the council also approved a $250 Christmas bonus for all city employees that will be given on November 27th.
The mayor also informed the council of a $1,602.20 increase in the animal control fee. After further discussion, Aldermen Charles Deloney made a motion to accept the proposed increase, which was seconded by Alderman James Jean. The motion was approved unanimously.
