Mineral Springs Appoints New Police Chief

Monday night, City Clerk April Teague announced Mayor Steve Dixon had appointed Jonathan Dykes the new chief of police following the retirement of Jeff Witherspoon. Witherspoon was in law enforcement for 28 years and served the City of Mineral Springs as the chief of police since 2008. Dykes stated he was grateful for the opportunity to serve. He also reported his department had been approved for the JAG grant and purchased three body cameras with docking stations and one body armor vest. Dykes reported the United States deputy Sheriff’s Association has donated four spike strips to the department. And lastly, Dykes said a new officer, Turner Reed is currently in the academy at Camden expecting to join them upon graduation and is in the process of hiring another officer to fill out the department ranks.
