Mineral Springs City Council Holds Monthly Meeting

In a regular monthly meeting on Monday, the Mineral Springs City Council convened with three aldermen present, while three were absent. The council decided to maintain the mill property tax at 5 mills, ensuring stability for local taxpayers.

Fire Chief Chris Hostetler presented the September report, highlighting that the fire department conducted two drills and responded to a total of 17 calls. This included 13 first responder calls, one brush fire, one structure fire, one vehicle accident, and one smoke alarm response.

Meanwhile, Police Chief Francisco Mercado reported a busy month for the police department, which issued six citations, responded to one accident, and made one misdemeanor arrest.

In a related matter, city official Kelly Windham, who is the Administrative Assistant to Howard County Judge Brent Pinkerton, addressed a Freedom of Information Act request from citizen William Tabler concerning former Officer Daniel Rojas’ tenure with the Howard County Jail. Windham confirmed that Rojas was employed there from March 24, 2022, until he received his last paycheck on December 23, 2022. She noted that while personnel files are not public records, she was able to provide the requested dates.
