Mineral Springs City Council votes to accept MS School District Park Proposal

Aldermen of the Mineral Springs City Council held their regular monthly meeting Monday.

Treasurer Denise Juniel conducted the meeting in Mayor Bobby Tullis’s place due to him being absent. At the beginning of the meeting the council allowed Market President of Diamond State Bank Heath Wallace have the floor. Wallace made a proposal to the council and stated that Diamond State Bank is willing to give $30,000 towards the Mineral Springs City Park. The only stipulation was signage. Wallace stated the sign could be over the concession stand or at the entrance. Afterwards Juniel informed the council about a grant that she would be willing to apply for that was in the amount of $100,000 that would also go towards improvements of the park. After further discussion, Aldermen Earle Hadden made a motion to go with the lease agreement made with the Mineral Springs School District with the changes included along with receiving the $30,000 from Diamond State Bank. There was a 3 to 2 vote and Hadden’s motion was approved.

Also, during the meeting, Juniel presented an ordinance that was in regard to Ward Elections. There was a motion made by Vanessa Hendrix and seconded by Earle Hadden to approve the ordinance that states that councilmen can be elected by ward. There was a 4 to 1 vote, and the ordinance was approved.  Another motion was made by aldermen Charles Deloney and seconded by James Jeanes to renew the lease on the trash truck. All were in favor of the motion.
