Mineral Springs EAST Lab adds junior program

The Mineral Springs High School E.A.S.T. Lab program is growing and a new junior program has been implemented this year. Coordinator Rob Plant reports that a total of 65 students in grades 7-12 are enrolled this year and that he expects between 15 and 20 fifth and sixth graders to join the new junior EAST program.

Upcoming projects for this school year include: building a Augmented Reality Sandbox, building a Titans Tower that will have robotic moving parts and programmed light patterns, recording audio and visual histories of people that attended all black high schools or were attending school when desegregation occurred.

Projects for the 5th and 6th grade Jr. E.A.S.T. program include CAD Design for 3D printing, audio/video editing, robotics programming in Hummingbird, and seed genetics to produce vegetables that can grow in cold weather.

E.A.S.T. stands for education accelerated by service and technology. Through the program, participants become positive agents of change to improve the world around them.
