Mineral Springs Hornets and Dierks Outlaws will battle it out for the Howard County Cup

Tonight, the Nashville Scrappers will be looking to skin the Bearcats of Mena. The Murfreesboro Rattlers will honor this year’s Homecoming Court, while Mineral Springs and Dierks battle it out for the Howard County Cup.

The Scrappers will be on the road to take on the Bearcats in the 7-4A conference.

Nashville and Mena enter tonight’s game with identical records of 3-2 overall and 0-1 in conference play. Nashville’s defense is giving up an average of 27 points per game, while the Bearcats are scoring an average of 30.

Tune in to B 99.5 for the live play-by-play tonight beginning at 5:30 with the Gameday preview show, followed by the First National Insurance studio pre-game show with Coach Boomer Brown and Jim Pinson at 6 and the kickoff at 7 pm with Bunch Nichols and Mark Trout from Bearcat Stadium.In Pike County, it’s Homecoming for the Murfreesboro Rattlers and Queen Sydney Lamb.

The Rattlers will face off with a non-conference foe, the Horatio Lions. The Rattlers are undefeated this season and 2-0 in the 3-2A conference and ranked as high as number 8 in some polls and the Rattlers have the number 2 ranked defense in 2A.

Coach Brad Chesshir said this has been a magical season so far, with his Rattlers accomplishing a lot of firsts in their high school football careers.

In Mineral Springs, it’ll be the Battle for the Howard County Cup as the Hornets host the Dierks Outlaws for county bragging rights.

The Dierks Outlaws come into tonight’s game 2-4 overall and 0-2 in the 3-2A conference. The Outlaws have held the Cup for the past 5 or 6 years and head coach Paul Ernest said his team will be up to the challenge of defending the Cup when they face the Hornets tonight in Mineral Springs.

Mineral Springs enters tonight’s contest 6-0 and ranked number 1 in 2A football and the Hornets have the number 1 ranked defense in 2A. Coach Jason Hathcock said tonight’s game is a big rivalry game, but the Hornets plan to also honor the late David Bennett with a new Player of the Game plaque.

Coach Bennett coached at both Dierks and Mineral and Hathcock felt this was an appropriate way to honor him during this game. Tonight’s Battle for the Howard County Cup can be heard on our sister station, 105.5 the Maverick at 7 pm and online at SouthwestArkansasRadio.com.
