Mineral Springs Man Arrested After Alleged Shoplifting and Foot Pursuit

A Mineral Springs man was arrested following a reported shoplifting incident and brief foot pursuit, according to local authorities.
It was reported that Officer David Shelby responded to a call at Cash Savers grocery store regarding a suspected shoplifter. Dispatch advised that the individual, identified as 56-year-old Robert Johnson, had previously been trespassed from the property.
According to the affidavit, Johnson had already left the store and was seen walking across Main Street. Officer Shelby later spotted a man matching the description entering the Hickory House parking lot. After attempting to get his attention by honking his patrol vehicle’s horn, Shelby reported that Johnson fled on foot toward a nearby residence.
When Officer Shelby arrived at the home, a woman inside allowed him to enter. He located Johnson sitting in a chair and took him into custody without further incident.
While inside the residence, Shelby asked the homeowner if Johnson had dropped anything when entering. She stated she was unsure. The officer then observed two packages of ribeye steaks, totaling four steaks, on the floor behind a television.
Authorities later reviewed security footage from Cash Savers, which allegedly showed Johnson taking the steaks and concealing them under his shirt before leaving the store.
Johnson was arrested and charged with theft of property, criminal trespass, and fleeing.
