Mineral Springs School Board
Superintendent for the Mineral Springs School District, Billy Lee, reported in their monthly meeting that he received bids on concrete work to be done on campus. Several bids for a sidewalk were taken with the board opting to spend $15,600 to extend the sidewalk between the administration building and the main campus due to students having to walk through high water during heavy rains. A bid received by Willard Lewis for a concrete slab on which the new Greenhouse will be placed was brought in at $2,587 and unanimously approved by the board.
The board also approved the previous years raised in accordance with Arkansas Act 1120 which states employees receiving a raise of 5% or more must be documented and presented to the board members. 130 employees made the list which, according to Lee, was primarily comprised of raises due to COVID-19 compensation.
Lee then asked for approval for a 1 time bonus for teachers within the school district who have received at least their 1st COVID-19 vaccine shot. The bonus was equal to $200 per person. Lee said approval for this bonus would cost $7,200 as only 36 of the 104 teachers have been vaccinated. Lee then stated this was not a very good percent.
Before the board adjourned a resignation letter was brought to the council members. Brandon Smith, the School Resource Officer, submitted his letter of resignation stating his last day would be September 24th. The board approved and Lee stated they would be looking quickly to fill this position.
