Mineral Springs School Board Addresses Board Vacancy, Student Transfer and Contract Disclosures

The Mineral Springs School Board met in regular session Tuesday at the Mineral Springs Administration Building. Vice President Ray Hawkins called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m., with a quorum established.
Board members present included Ray Hawkins, Kay Slaton, Xavier Vaughn and Ricky Gamble. William Dixon was absent. Barnado Thomas entered the meeting during the session.
One of the items on the agenda was the vacant Zone 4 board seat. Britany Rosenbaum addressed the board regarding her interest in the position. Rosenbaum spoke about strengthening relationships, caring for students and the district, transparency, being willing to listen and the need for representation in her area.
Vice President Hawkins then called for a motion to approve Rosenbaum for the vacant board seat. No motion was made at that time.
The board next considered a student transfer request. Superintendent JonDavid Amerson recommended approval of a student transfer to the Nashville School District.
Barnado Thomas made a motion to approve the student transfer, with Xavier Vaughn seconding the motion. The motion carried unanimously by a 5-0 vote.
The board then moved to contract disclosure forms. Barnado Thomas exited the room before the discussion and vote.
Superintendent Amerson recommended approval of contract disclosure forms involving Ashley Thomas for Homecoming Mums; Board Member Barnado Thomas, who is Ashley Thomas’ spouse; Board Member William Dixon, involving Homecoming decorations; and Marla Williams, involving Saratoga landscaping.
Vice President Hawkins called for a motion to approve the contract disclosure forms as presented. Ricky Gamble made the motion, with Kay Slaton seconding.
The motion passed 4-0. Barnado Thomas then re-entered the meeting.
The meeting adjourned with no further business.
