Howard County’s 150th Anniversary

Monday April 17th will be Howard County’s 150th anniversary. Howard County Judge Brent Pinkerton stated at the last quorum court meeting that his plan was to issue a proclamation to designate Center Point as the county seat for that one day as it was originally to start with. That morning from 8:30am to 10:30am the Extension Homemakers and employees will be serving refreshments at the courthouse and the public is invited to come and celebrate Howard County’s 150th Sesquicentennial Celebration.

In observance of Howard County’s Anniversary, the quorum court meeting will be held in Center Point at the Community Center located at 210 North CenterPoint Street.

Howard County was created on April 17th, 1873, from parts of Hempstead, Pike, Polk, and Sevier Counties. The first county seat was Centre Point and after the completion of a railroad to Nashville in 1885, the city grew rapidly. After the election in 1905, the county government was moved to Nashville.
