MS City Council updated on several water department issues

Monday night, Mineral Springs City Recorder/Treasurer Denise Juniel opened the meeting by addressing several concerns that had been brought to her attention.

Juniel started by addressing some reportedly missing Sanitary Sewer Overflow reports from 1999 through 2021. According to the Arkansas Department of Health the reports were started but never completed. Secondly, she reported acting water superintendent, Eric Marks has completed his classroom work and is scheduled to take his water certification test on December 2. Juniel also reminded the council that they voted to name Marks the water superintendent, but they have never increased his salary to reflect that promotion. She also mentioned some training that several council members will need to complete before the end of the end.

Nashville Public Works director Larry Dunaway further addressed Act 605 which is the new state law that requires council members to complete 8-hours of training.

Dunaway also informed the council about the new lead/copper rules. The new rules will require municipalities to conduct a service line inventory. He said the service line inventory must be completed by the end of 2024.
